(Salt Lake City-AP) -- A 27-year-old man is recuperating today in the hospital after being struck by a car as he attempted to drag a couch onto his truck on the side of the freeway.

Adam Silver was driving on the Interstate 15 near Lagoon last night when a couch fell off his trailer full of furniture. When Silver attempted to retrieve the couch, he was struck by a woman in a car.

Utah Highway Patrol Sergeant Jeff Willmore said the unidentified woman saw the couch, but not Silver. Swerving to miss the couch, she hit Silver, who suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to LDS Hospital.

Silver's wife, Eve, says her husband has a broken tibia, cracks in his pelvis and a sprained shoulder. But despite all the injuries, she says - quote - "He came out of it in good shape."
