SYRACUSE -- A long standoff in Syracuse ended peacefully early Saturday morning.
Police were called to a home near 800 South and 3800 West just after 10:00 Friday night.
They said a man -- depressed over a pending divorce and family death -- had barricaded himself inside.
"He said he wanted to go out in a blaze of glory," said Chief Brian Wallace with the Syracuse Police Department. "He fired into the ground, came out and fired into his front lawn on one occasion. Most of the shots were inside the house."
Police tried for six hours to get him to come out. It wasn't until 4 a.m. Saturday that he surrendered.
He was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital for a mental evaluation.
Police said one bullet hit a patrol car, and residents of several neighboring homes reported damage from bullet holes as well.
Police did not release the man's name, but said criminal charges will be filed.
