(Salt Lake City-AP) -- A suspect is in jail charged with setting vacant homes on fire in Salt Lake County.

Shawn Robinson Olson was charged yesterday with 17 counts of arson and burglary.

Two of the counts are felony aggravated arson that carry a penalty of five-years to life in prison.

Investigators say the 22-year-old set at least nine fires between September 2000 and April 2004 and targeted empty or vacant homes mostly in south Salt Lake County.

No one was injured in the fires, but the damage totaled more than 437-thousand dollars.

Court documents show Olsen admitted setting the fires.

He's being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on 750-thousand dollars bail.
