(KSL News) -- Pfizer, the world's largest pharmaceutical company, will pay $430-million for making unfounded claims about the drug NeuRONtin, and Utah is getting a chunk of it.
The case involves charges against Warner-Lambert, a company Pfizer acquired four years ago. A whistleblower accused Warner-Lambert of promoting non-approved uses of NeuRONtin, approved as an epilepsy drug.
Warner-Lambert marketed the drug to treat various psychiatric disorders, back pains and headaches-even though the company did not have any scientific evidence backing its use for those ailments.
About 90% of the prescriptions for NeuRONtin were for "off-label" use.
