(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Prosecutors in the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping case have asked a judge to allow a third expert to evaluate suspect Wanda Barzee's competence to stand trial.
The Salt Lake District Attorney's Office filed a memorandum yesterday asking Judge Judith Atherton to appoint Dr. Noel C. Gardner to offer an opinion on whether Barzee ever will able to stand trial.
Gardner is one of the court-appointed experts who evaluated Barzee's husband, Brian David Mitchell, also suspected of kidnapping Elizabeth two years ago.
Barzee has been declared incompetent. Doctors who looked at Mitchell were split, with one saying he was competent to stand trial, the other saying he wasn't.
Barzee will have another hearing August tenth on the matter.
