Andrew Adams reportingTeen drivers are in lawmakers' sights with two bills currently under consideration. One would require teens to do some major homework.
The idea is to make teens who want licenses, to write up a 10-page report on a local teen that died in an accident. Macabre? Maybe. But the bill's sponsor, Springville Republican representative Aaron Tilton says it's more relevant than showing gory pictures of a random accident in driver's ed.
Aaron Tilton: "Most people look at that and go, you know, that makes sense. It's common sense that people would be most impacted by the accidents that took place in their community."
Tilton says he got the idea after a 17-year-old niece died in a car accident.
Meanwhile, another bill has made it out of committee that would ban teens from using cell phones while behind the wheel. Highway patrol, the triple-a and the insurance lobby all love the idea.
