SALT LAKE CITY -- A 23-year-old accused of killing an infant he was babysitting has been charged with murder. The 9-month-old child died Thursday night from severe brain trauma.
"What this baby suffered was a massive head trauma, the kind of head trauma that caused his brain to swell so much that it had nowhere to go," said Rob Parrish, with the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office.
Parrish said there is also evidence that little Milo Doxey's head either struck and object or was hit by something.
According to police, Jared Daniel Billette, the boyfriend of the mother's friend, was babysitting the infant and a 2-year-old child on Wednesday.
When Billette's girlfriend called to check on the children, he told her Milo was having trouble breathing. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
If convicted of murder, Billette faces 15 years to life in prison.
