SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The mayor of 400-person town near the Arizona border is under fire to resign.
Folks in Big Water say Willy Marshall has made them ashamed to live there. They say a recent Salt Lake Tribune article he was interviewed for made the town look like a refuge for polygamists and pot-smoking political mavericks who disregard the law.
Marshall is openly gay, but has said that's never been a political issue in Big Water.
Besides the newspaper story, angry residents at a recent meeting criticized him for other things, like recently firing the town marshal and letting packs of domestic dogs run free.
Marshall was elected in 2001, and says he's not going anywhere until his four-year term is up.
He says the town will have to impeach him if people want him out of office before then.
Big Water is in south-central Utah about nine miles north of Glen Canyon Dam.
