(KSL News) The volunteers who searched the landfill for Lori Hacking's body were honored Friday night.

The 92 volunteers, many of them police officers, gathered for a cocktail party and then a presentation. Lori's family thanked them for their heroic efforts.

Thelma Soares/ Lori's mother: "You did for me what I could not do for myself. You did for me what no one should be asked to do."

Lori's mom says she has enjoyed a measure of peace since Lori's remains were uncovered in the Salt Lake county landfill and laid to rest in a cemetary not far from her home.
