(KSL News) -- An avalanche slid across the roadway in Provo Canyon, but authorities call it the picture of success.

The mess was the work of avalanche control experts who triggered the slide before it triggered itself. The mass of snow covered the highway for about a hundred yards, and in places measures ten feet deep!
The road was closed at the time, so no one was hurt. But the clean-up is huge and the road will be closed until 10 o'clock tonight.
Traffic is being re-routed to the old canyon highway.
