SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Charter School Board is asking lawmakers for more money to hire additional staff.
Utah charter schools have grown exponentially since their debut back in 1998.
Charter school director, John Broberg says, this year there are 30 schools and next year there will be 40.
The state has one director and one administrative assistant and school officials say that just isn't enough.
The charter school board is requesting 198-thousand dollars in ongoing general fund money to hire two additional staff members. They would provide technical assistance to applicants, provide performance outcome assessment and financial performance oversight for existing schools.
The school board is also requesting a one-time general fund appropriation of 66-thousand dollars to begin funding those positions in March of 2005.
