The U.S. Department of Justice says the grants are intended to help society's most vulnerable members during the economic downturn.

Citizens Against Physical and Sexual Abuse in Logan will get about $344,000 to provide transitional housing for 21 women and their children who are fleeing domestic violence in northern Utah.

A group called Your Community Unity in Brigham City will get about $250,000 to expand its transitional housing program and provide 100 counseling sessions per year for victims of domestic and violence, and sexual assault.
