PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A Utah County couple accused of beating and starving their adopted Russian children are expected to be in court today.

A review hearing will be held for Teresa and Reed Hansen in 4th District Court today.

The Hansen's are charged with several counts of child abuse and neglect.

Investigators said the couple punished their adopted four-year-old daughter and five-year-old son by withholding food for days at a time.

Defense attorneys have said the kids were suffering from a pre-existing medical condition and that's why they appeared malnourished.
