Emergency and disaster preparedness is a subject that is always ripe for discussion. Individuals, neighborhoods, and communities can never know for sure when emergencies or disasters will strike, or what form they will take.
With September being National Preparedness Month, Utah officials have launched a campaign to raise public awareness and to encourage families, businesses and government entities to become better prepared.
They call the campaign "Be Ready Utah." A website with that name, BeReadyUtah.gov is now available with interactive tools to assist families and institutions with the emergency planning process. KSL encourages you to check it out.
Essentially, Utahns are being asked to:
- Make a plan, to know "where to go, what to do and how to communicate" in the event of an emergency.
- Get a kit and always be ready to be self sufficient for three to five days.
- Be informed about potential hazards and about local emergency plans.
- Get involved in helping others become better prepared.
One has only to watch the news to see that disasters happen anytime, anyplace and often without warning. It is good and always timely to be reminded of the value of being prepared for whatever might come our way.
