If you frequently read or post to the comment boards, you may have noticed a major change was made today. You are now only able to reply to the first level of comments. We did this in an effort to make the comment boards easier to read and to cut down on the amount of infighting and bickering that goes on.

We have also removed the subject line from each comment. Currently the name or screen name of the users resides in the former subject line area.

We also have added a "lock" for each board that is automatically engaged after a set period of time. We can also enable the lock manually should we feel the discussion in a board has run its course.

These changes are the first in several major upgrades to the comment boards. In the coming days we will be updating the look and layout of the comment boards, as well as changing the voting mechanism.

Most of these changes are in response to rampant abuse of the comment boards. Many options have been considered in regards to ways to combat board abuse. A complete shutdown of the boards was also considered. Ultimately, we believe these boards can be a valuable asset to the community, if used correctly.

We fully realize that people will continue to abuse the comment boards no matter what effort we make (and our ban hammer is always ready to go..), but we felt this was a step in the right direction.

As always, we welcome your comments and questions. You can send them to comPost@ksl.com.
