SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Operators of a shelter that serves Utah's homeless youth says the facility's emergency food pantry shelves are nearly bare.
Volunteers of America, Utah operates the Homeless Youth Resource Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Last year the drop-in center provided basic services, including nonperishable food, to 850 homeless youth between the ages of 15 and 22.
VOA Director of Community Engagement Michelle Templin-Polasek says the center needs community donations so it can continue to provide food to clients. She says a canned-food drive is scheduled for Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. MDT at the center at 655 South State Street.
Volunteers of America is a national, nonprofit organization. In Utah, the agency operates 10 programs that serve more than 10,000 people annually.
