WEBER COUNTY -- A man who admitted he stabbed his girlfriend to death in her North Ogden apartment was sentenced Tuesday to a maximum of 16 years to life in prison.
Johnny Maurice Bell Jr. pleaded guilty last month to first-degree murder in the death of Brittany Nichols. Prosecutors say Bell was so angered by Nichols for breaking up with him last January that he stabbed her as her child watched.
As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped a charge of domestic violence in front of a child.
The sentence includes a one-year weapons enhancement. No credit was given for time served.
Bell also must pay a $10,000 fine along with more than $4,000 in restitution. Additional restitution may be forthcoming.
