Press releaseA new walking path from the economy (long-term) parking lot to the terminals at Salt Lake City International Airport has been installed.

The cement path is designed to accommodate travelers that would rather walk to the terminals instead of using the free shuttle bus system.

The path starts on the north edge of the parking lot. It leads into the car rental operation area and through the lowest level of the daily (short-term) parking garage to the terminals.

It enables passengers to pull luggage as they walk to and from the terminals and their parked vehicles. The path is signed to direct walkers.

"This amenity has been in the works for a while," comments Maureen Riley, Executive Director of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports. "The parking lots and roads at the airport have been reconfigured a lot over the past few years, and we are now able to offer an area for walkers away from major traffic and other hurdles."

Also, a resurfacing project has begun in the 10,040 stall parking lot. The lanes between the stalls will be reinforced and resurfaced due to the strenuous use the lot receives.

The project is staged in phases so available parking areas will be rotated as the work moves through each section of the lot.

Finally, a perimeter fence is being installed around the lot.

Airport officials note that these projects are part of a series of planned upgrades to the airport's parking system.
