SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Gov. Gary Herbert's pick to become Utah's lieutenant governor has won approval from a state Senate committee.
The Senate Government Operations and Political Subdivisions Confirmation Committee unanimously approved Sen. Greg Bell on Thursday. The Republican from Fruit Heights was not expected to face any opposition as he appeared before his colleagues for the hearing.
Herbert spoke on Bell's behalf.
The committee's recommendation now goes to the full Senate, which is set to vote on the nomination during a special session on Tuesday. Assuming he is confirmed, Bell will be sworn in the same day.
