Randall Jeppsen Reporting Provo City is firing back after an out-of-state report called their government-owned fiber optic network a flop.
In the few years of i-Provo's existence, there's been a constant debate over whether the cities fiber optic network which can provide phone, Internet and TV services will ever start paying for itself.
City Chief Administrative Officer Wayne Parker: "We're certainly being watched within the state, nationally, and internationally."
Parker says they expect to start coming out even in about 18 months. But a report from the Reason Foundation in California called i-Provo a black hole draining the cities money.
Wayne Parker: "They attempt to judge the success or failure of i-Provo before the system was even fully built out."
To dispute the report Provo City put out a twenty-four page document outlining how wrong the report was.
The report's author stands by his conclusions.
