SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) -- An investigation is now underway into the death of a Salt Lake County Jail inmate.
Police say the 33-year-old man died yesterday of unknown causes. He had been in jail on various drug charges.
Officers say shortly after being booked into jail, the man got into an altercation with the jail staff. As a result, police say he was placed in a cell with a restraining device. But officers later noticed the man struggling, so they took him out of the restraint.
He was treated at the jail, and later at the hospital, where he died.
Authorities say more than a dozen people were involved with the man's outburst, and four of them had to be treated at the hospital for their injuries.
An autopsy is set to be done today.
