SEATTLE, Dec 24, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Kate Fleming, a well-known 41-year-old audio book narrator, died recently when her home in Seattle was hit with a flash flood.
Fleming was trapped in the basement of her home during a severe winter storm, rescuers were not able to reach her before the flash flood hit, The Los Angeles Times reported.
The renowned audio book recorder, who has more than 200 titles credited to her, died Dec. 14 at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The newspaper said Fleming originally dreamed of becoming an actress but accidentally got into storytelling and loved it. She would plunge into roles and research the geography of a book's setting, develop her men's voices and make sure that all of her pronunciation was correct as she prepared to record a new book, said the Times.
Fleming also owned her own company and was beginning to direct other actors in their narrations.
Her partner of nine years, Charlene Strong; her mother, Audrey Fleming; six sisters and a brother survive Fleming.
