PAGE, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say a 4-year-old boy has drowned at Lake Powell.

Park dispatch at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area received a 911 call Monday from a houseboat in Warm Creek Bay on Lake Powell on Monday night, saying a boy had just been retrieved from shallow water and was unresponsive.

Authorities say the child had been playing on the beach with other children from the houseboat, was not wearing a life jacket and had been left unattended only for a few minutes.

It remains unclear how the boy ended up in the water.

A nurse on the houseboat immediately started CPR. Park rangers and a helicopter from Classic Lifeguard were on scene within 18 minutes of the 911 call and continued lifesaving efforts.

Authorities say the child was transported by helicopter to Page Hospital, but couldn't be revived.

The name of the boy and his hometown have not been released yet.
