SALT LAKE CITY -- A broken pipe sent a river of water down West Temple Sunday evening, and it took some time to shut it off.

Salt Lake City police say the road around 610 South has just been repaved, and city workers had not yet dug holes for the water valve covers.

It took nearly an hour for crews to dig up the new road with a back hoe and shut off the water. Two lanes of West Temple will remain closed overnight.

Officials say heat may have caused the pipe to break.
