UTAH COUNTY -- The search for a boater missing for nearly a week on Utah Lake ended sadly when crews found his body Saturday afternoon.

Searchers had been combing the lake for 33-year-old Lon Thongthipvoravong since the boat he was in capsized last Monday evening.

The Utah County Sheriff's Office says another boater noticed some clothing floating in the water Saturday afternoon and immediately notified the search crews. The sheriff's office found the body just before 1 p.m. and confirms it is Thongthipvoravong.

Authorities say the body was found nearly a mile from where crews recovered the boat earlier this week. The five other people on the boat made it to safety.

Thongthipvoravong's family told KSL 5 News Saturday night they are distraught but the discovery has brought a sense of closure.
