SALT LAKE CITY -- A 24-year-old woman is in jail, and a 14-year-old girl was taken into protective custody during a Salt Lake City prostitution investigation.
Police Sgt. Fred Ross says Vice detectives were searching the Internet Thursday night when they came across an "advertisement for illegal services."
Ross says police followed up on the ad and arranged a meeting, not only with 24-year-old Linnea Darcel Buckner, but with a 14-year-old girl, as well. The girl was taken into protective custody.
"Here in Utah that's not the common place, but nationwide 14-year-olds are seen engaging in this type of behavior, whether it's willing or unwilling," Ross says.
He says the Internet is fast becoming the way everybody communicates anymore and illegal activity is no exception.
Buckner was booked into jail on charges of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, sexual solicitation and operating a sexually-oriented business without a license.
As for the 14-year old, Ross says police are very progressive in trying to get people out of prostitution, whether they're adults or children.
