SALT LAKE CITY -- Researchers say drinking too much cola can lead to some serious medical problems. A study to be published in the International Journal of Clinical Practice cited case studies in Greece where some people who drank a lot of cola on a daily basis increased their risk of low potassium levels, also known as hypokalemia.

That, in turn, can lead to some serious complications with muscle functions. In one case, researchers say a 21-year-old woman developed fatigue, appetite loss, excessive vomiting and a heart blockage. She had taken up to seven liters of cola a day for about 10 months.

Researchers say fructose, glucose and caffeine in excessive amounts can all contribute to the health problems.
