Mateos-Martinez fled to Baja, Mexico after the killing but was tracked down by U.S. Marshals last July.
He now faces one count of aggravated murder along with aggravated assault and robbery charges.
The getaway driver, Jesus Jimenez, has already been convicted of murder and robbery for his role in the crime. He's serving 21 years to life in prison.
