Gene Kennedy reportingTwo freeway ramps had to be shutdown this morning when a minivan rolled over on I-215 near Redwood Road.
Lt. Shaun Judd, Utah Highway Patrol: "One of the troopers actually rolled up on the scene while the wheels were still spinning."
Drivers trying to get from I-80 and 215 to Redwood Road had to take a detour as troopers had to block both ramps for about an hour and a half. Emergency crews had to extricate the passenger in the minivan.
Troopers say the minivan drifted off the ramp because the driver reached to get something in the vehicle. She tried to get back on the road safely, but over-corrected. The van rolled several times.
The driver walked away from the crash but the passenger was pinned in the van.
Lt. Shaun Judd, Utah Highway Patrol: "In fact her head was in a position where it was outside the vehicle and kind of pinned in an area. About three other troopers started taking seats out, we were able to get that female passenger out of the vehicle."
An ambulance took her to the hospital with serious injuries. At one point she stopped breathing, but paramedics revived her.
