ST. GEORGE -- The family of a young boy killed when a real gun being used in a school play discharged has filed suit against the school district, the police and the parent who provided the gun.
Ron and Cathie Thayer are seeking money to cover medical bills and funeral expenses for their son Tucker.
They say nobody has given them good answers about why the shooting happened, why a real gun was allowed at school and what's being done to prevent it in the future.
"Everybody was so non-caring and so relaxed about the fact that there was a real gun being used in this play," Ron Thayer said. "They were so focused on the play that they forgot about the safety of the kids."
Tucker, 15, was killed Nov. 15 when a gun loaded with blanks discharged during a school musical at Desert Hills High School. The gun was supposed to be used for a sound effect in the play "Oklahoma."
