SALT LAKE CITY -- Rowland Hall-St. Mark's has been around for over a century. Now, the school will be known just as Rowland Hall.

The school's marketing and publications director Susan Koles says a study showed that people believed it was a parochial school.

"But we haven't been a parochial school, an Episcopal school, for, gosh, over 40 years," Koles said.

She says Rowland Hall is an independent school, even though it hasn't changed its mission and still has an Episcopalian chaplain on campus.

"You know, we're certainly not ashamed of it or, you know, going away from our roots at all," Koles said. She says it's just easier to say and remember Rowland Hall.

The official name of the school remains Rowland Hall-St. Mark's, and it will appear that way on all diplomas.
