OGDEN — Federal prosecutors have charged a West Jordan man with drug trafficking, while charges in the same matter in the 2nd District Court in Ogden have been dismissed.

Federal prosecutors filed a count of possession of fentanyl with the intent to distribute, a felony, against Jeremy Gene Aiken, 51, in U.S. District Court on April 29. As a result, Judge Matthew Hansen on Tuesday dismissed three counts Aiken had faced in the same case in the 2nd District Court in Ogden — trafficking of fentanyl, a first-degree felony, and interfering with a peace officer and possession of marijuana, class B misdemeanors.

The Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force set up a drug deal by phone with Aiken on April 10 as part of a sting operation, assisted by a confidential informant. At the meetup location in Weber County, Aiken was arrested after exiting his vehicle and walking to where the informant was located. He had allegedly agreed to sell 5,000 fentanyl pills to undercover officers, and a large amount of suspected fentanyl pills was discovered in his vehicle during his arrest, according to original charging papers.

Aiken, in federal custody, pleaded not guilty to the federal count on May 29, according to online court records.
