FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) -- The man accused in the shooting death of his father during a duck hunting trip two years ago has been found mentally competent to stand trial.
But doctors are now trying to figure out if 21-year-old Benjamin Gully was insane on October 9, 2004, the day he's accused of killing his father, 61-year-old James Gully, at Farmington Bay.
Gully has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to first-degree murder. Gully's attorney says his client was not criminally responsible for the shooting.
Gully has been at the Utah State Hospital for more than a year.
