SALT LAKE CITY -- There's some good news and bad news for charitable groups: One kind of donation could go up, but another could go down.

Catholic Community Services wants to keep the momentum going. "In 2008, the donations actually went up," said Kathryn Brussard, marketing director for CCS.

A survey from Cygnus Applied Research, a Chicago-based research firm, says a majority of religious donors say they expect to give at least as much as they did last year to charity. Brussard says that's great news, because she expects donations from foundations to drop.

"Foundations are always lagging about a year behind, and they're so dependent on the stock market," Brussard explained.

She says they could definitely use the money because need for their services is up about 40 percent.
