Police say a woman stole a white truck out of the driveway of a home in Kaysville this morning. Neighbors say the owner of the truck had left it running.

Audrey Laser, Victim's Neighbor: "He had gone out to turn on his engine, went inside, came back out and the truck was gone."

After Kaysville police broadcast an "attempt to locate on the vehicle", Centerville police spotted the truck driving along I-15.

Lt. Paul Child, Centerville Police Department: "When they attempted to stop the truck, the driver fled. There was a short pursuit."

After crossing four lanes of traffic, the female driver of the truck tried to take the on-ramp to I-215, but police say she overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. That's when she rolled several times into a field off the side of the freeway. When the officers caught up to her, they drew their guns.

Lt. Paul Child: "At that point, it's still a very potentially dangerous situation. You don't know if they still have a fight in them."

But the woman didn't have a weapon and didn't put up a fight; she was pinned inside her car. As medical crews arrived, they extricated her out of the truck. Highway patrol troopers say she had serious injuries to her head, back and legs. She was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Lt. Child: "It was good that no one else got hurt. It's unfortunate that she did, but she was the one that put everyone in jeopardy."
