KEARNS -- As stress over rising unemployment goes up, some are turning to the gyms to deal with it.

Since unemployment started to rise, the membership at Jordan Valley Athletic Club has stayed relatively steady. "A few [members] have had to drop because of losing their jobs, but then we've also been gaining," said owner Ranae Plumb.

While Plumb hasn't seen anyone sign up for membership specifically because they lost their job, she says her members who have lost their jobs are without a doubt working out longer. She says members tell her they need a stress release.

"I think it sets off those endorphins so they don't get as depressed as just sitting home worrying about the lack of work," Plumb said.

She says many of her customers say they plan to hold on to their membership as long as possible, but some of them don't know how long they'll be able to afford it.
