SALT LAKE COUNTY -- The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office announced charges Friday against the woman at the center of an Amber Alert earlier this month.
Prosecutors say 20-year-old Melissa Irish is now facing one count of first-degree felony kidnapping and one count of unauthorized control of a vehicle for an extended time, a third-degree felony.
Irish is accused of stealing a car from a Magna gas station earlier this month that had a 3-year-old boy in the back seat. She later ditched the car in a nearby neighborhood, and the boy got out and went looking for help.
Irish faces a possible sentence of 15 years to life in prison on the kidnapping charge.
