NEBO -- Teachers in the Nebo School District will have fewer days at work, but it won't mean fewer days for the students.
Like all state school districts, the Nebo District is trying to cover budget cuts. The Nebo School District is telling all its employees they'll have four unpaid days off next school year. Superintendent Chris Sorensen says the move should save the district close to two million dollars.
All the days off come from teacher career ladder days, or days where teachers come to work but students stay home. So students will keep the same number of days in the classroom.
Sorenson says the reality is the teachers and staff will likely just do all the work at home those days they would have done at the office.
The district is also hiring fewer new teachers as another way to save money.
"The end result of that is a slight increase in class size. That's the bad news," Sorenson said.
The state is allowing districts to cut five regular school days if needed to save money.
