Suspect Opens Fire During Bank Robbery

Early this morning a man wearing a ski mask walked into the Chase Bank at 1072 Fort Union Blvd. He pulled out a gun and fired a single shot into the ceiling of the bank. He then approached the teller who gave him a back pack full of money.

Police think the robber dropped his ski mask in the parking lot outside the bank as he was making his getaway. He jumped into a car and took off. Investigators think the money he got away with will be worthless.

Sgt. Gregg Olsen, Midvale Police Dept.: "A dye pack was placed in with the money. So usually when you exit the bank, there is a certain time period that once you exit the bank it triggers it. The dye pack will go off, rendering the money useless."

After the robbery police searched the area but couldn't find the suspect. Police are hoping surveillance video will help bring him into custody.
