Salt Lake City -- A man facing charges in connection with the brutal beating of an ex-girlfriend's dog is now charged with assaulting the dog's owner.
Prosecutors say during an argument in May of 2008, Anthony Spidle, 21, grabbed the woman as she tried to leave, punched her, pulled her hair and choked her.
The Deseret News reports he is now charged with felony assault; this in addition to the pending animal torture charge. That charge stems from accusations Spidle beat his ex-girlfriend's puppy almost to death because the woman refused to speak to him.
Spidle is currently being held at the Salt Lake County Jail. He will appear in court on Tuesday.
