Gene Kennedy Reporting A high-speed chase started over a simple traffic violation this morning.

Officers tried to pull over a motorist for running a red light, but he took off because he had an invalid driver's license.

Officers say 29-year-old Germaine Rogers led them on a five to six mile chase from West Valley City to West Jordan. Police say he was going 95 miles an hour down Bangerter Highway.

Police had to lay down spikes and blow the suspect's tires. But then he ran on foot.

Police sent a canine after him and that's all it took. The dog bit him, and the suspect was caught near 7800 South Bangerter Highway.

The man had no warrants out for him, but now he's off to jail.

Sgt. Eric Anderson, West Valley City P.D. "Well he probably wouldn't be going to jail, he most likely would have received a ticket and been on his way."

Now Germaine Rogers has a felony charge on top of his denied license.
