SALT LAKE CITY -- Gov. Jon Huntsman says it's time to pay attention to a major threat. "It's an earthquake that keeps me up at night," he said. "The prospect of a 7, 7.5 Richter scale earthquake, and whether or not we are prepared as a state and as individual communities to do what needs to be done."

The governor has declared April Earthquake Preparedness Month.

Until this year, the state dedicated just a week to Earthquake Preparedness. But Huntsman says the effort needs to be bigger and better than it has been in the past.

Each week will be broken down into themes, including preparedness in the schools, families, communities and private and public sectors.

And the state government will release a new comprehensive earthquake handbook next week.
