ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- A former Washington County sheriff's deputy has been booked into jail in connection with a sex scandal involving corrections officers and inmates.
Mike Ballard was charged in May with one count of custodial sexual relations, a third-degree felony which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
He was booked and released from Purgatory Correctional Facility yesterday.
Sheriff's Lt. Jake Adams says the booking wasn't an arrest, but done as a court tracking process.
Ballard is one of five deputies who resigned after an investigation alleged officers had sex with jail inmates, or inmates who had been released to probation.
Two deputies have pleaded guilty to charges so far.
A preliminary hearing for Ballard is set for Dec. 15 in 5th District Court.
