OGDEN - The Ogden office of the Utah Department of Workforce Services has been swamped at times with people looking for help.
Usually the Ogden office sees 1,000 people a day. Recently it saw more than 3,000 people in just one day.
DWS employees say workers are so busy that it's hard to give people the full service that's needed. But employees say they try not to panic at the crowd, and they advise the unemployed not to panic.
The department doesn't handle just unemployment benefits. It also helps with resumes, job searches and budgeting.
Office director Koral Vasquez tells the Standard-Examiner people coming in looking for help must admit what they need, and that can be hard to do. Once it's accomplished, they can work on benefits, resources or marketing to get back on their feet.
She says the unemployed need to know they are not alone, there is help in the community, and they need to learn about available resources. A good place to start can be by dialing 211, a statewide information and referral service.
