(KSL News) -- A pretrial hearing is set for this morning for the teenager accused of shooting and killing a Catholic charity worker on his way home from a church service.
Cunny Palaez, 19, is charged with capital murder and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
Palaez is an illegal immigrant and is not allowed to own a gun.
Palaez and his father, Anthony Pelaez-Vasquez, are accused of killing Aniceto Armendariz, a deacon at St. Mary's Catholic Church and a Hispanic activist.
If convicted, Palaez faces a potential sentence of death, life in prison without parole, or 20 years to life with the possibility of parole.
His father's trail is scheduled for January.
