PAROWAN -- A bird migrating from the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Salt Lake is getting some help after it didn't pack enough for the trip and ended up in Parowan.
"It's a long flight for these guys. This poor guy was heading north and didn't get enough food on the way," Southwest Wildlife Foundation spokesman Martin Tyner said.
Tyner didn't expect the bird to live, but people generously donated fish from their freezers. "We've got plenty of fish for him, and we've been making fish shakes," he said.
Tyner says the pelican is fully recovered and will get a ride to the Great Salt Lake this weekend.
