SALT LAKE CITY -- Dozens of Utahns visited Hogle Zoo to see one of the most well-loved animals, perhaps for the last time.

Muke, one of the zoo's silver-back gorillas, has been battling cancer. The 43-year-old gorilla is such a popular animal that zookeepers decided to let her stay out as long as her health will allow.

Bobbi Gordan, a Great Ape keeper, said, "There's a lot of kids and stuff that just know Muke and have spent a lot of time with her. She's pretty interactive. She'll just sit at the windows and play with them and make faces at them."

Muke's mate, Tino, sits in the cage next to her. Zookeepers say he senses something's going on so he sits and watches her throughout the day.
