ST. GEORGE — A man sustained serious injuries after his vehicle struck a pole and launched into an apartment complex, before falling onto parked vehicles early Sunday.
About 5:37 a.m., police responded to reports of a crash near 260 North Dixie Drive. The driver struck a light pole "at a high rate of speed," launching the vehicle into an apartment complex nearby and then onto parked vehicles below, according to St. George police officer Tiffany Mitchell.
The driver "was significantly, if not critically, injured," said Mitchell. The crash displaced a family of four but no other injuries were reported.
"Obviously, speed was a factor in this one and possible impairment, if we could take those factors out of our driving we would be a lot safer," said Mitchell.
The crash left a "widespread scene" with several light poles, the apartment building and several parked vehicles damaged, police said. During the investigation, 100 N. to 360 North Dixie Dr. were closed in both directions but have since reopened.
