LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- A felony pornography conviction in Utah has forced a sex shops owner out of the race for City Council in Nebraska's capital city.

John Haltom is the "Doctor John" of seven Doctor John's "lingerie novelty boutiques" in Missouri, Illinois and Nebraska. Two are in Lincoln.

He was convicted of selling an adult video to a 17-year-old girl in Salt Lake City in 2000 and served 30 days.

The Lancaster County election commission says that conviction makes Haltom ineligible for election. The Nebraska Constitution bars felons from holding public office unless pardons restored their civil rights.

The Republican was one of six candidates for the three council seats at stake in the April 7 primary.
