Carole Mikita reporting (KSL News) -- A new temple for the LDS church will soon to be dedicated in Helsinki, Finland/
The dedication takes place tomorrow, but already thousands of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are gathering there. Many of the members have traveled hundreds of mile to attend the dedication.
In a meeting today, President Gordon B. Hinckley spoke to the crowd with the help of a translator.
President Gordon B. Hinckley: "I'm now an old man this may be the last temple that I'll dedicate but we'll see how things go. I have participated in the dedication or rededication of 94 of the 124 temples. But I have never seen such enthusiasm as I have seen with reference to the Helsinki Temple. "
Hinckley urged members to attend the Helsinki temple often. He also told them to be proud of their Finnish heritage.
Apostle Richard G. Scott also traveled to Helsinki. He spoke of nations coming together.
Elder Richard G. Scott, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: "While we all speak different languages. We all speak the language of the spirit."
There was also a cultural celebration where six European nations displayed native songs and dances.
